Description
Summary:This study aims to analyze safety behaviors displayed by workers in different occupational contexts in Northern Mexico. Safety behavior was measured with two dimensions: safety participation and safety compliance, through a previously validated 7-item instrument. Data were collected from a sample of 201 workers working in different employment sectors including automotive, medical, services, and education, among others. No significant differences were identified in safety behaviors exhibited among the different work sectors; however, it is noteworthy that workers in the educational and service sectors are more likely to exhibit better safety behaviors. The work contexts with more risky behaviors are those of the electronics and medical sectors. Moreover, it was found that only a low percentage of workers are aware of working in an unsafe manner. It is recommended to continue analyzing occupational accidents, and their respective associated factors, to use such information for designing preventive safety measures.
